About Dragon Boat Racing
Dragon boat racing began in Southern China over 2000 years ago; today it is the fastest growing team water sport. Distinguished by their ornate figureheads, these majestic boats are rowed competitively throughout the world and now on Chautauqua Lake.
A dragon boat seats 10 or 20 paddlers with a steersperson standing in the stern to guide the boat, and a drummer in the bow to motivate the team to keep the paddlers in synch. Crews do not require prior experience, a steersperson is provided along with training before the scheduled race day. Participants simply need the desire to enjoy a friendly, team building athletic competition!
“We believe that everyone taking part in the dragon boat experience should have fun and be brought closer together from all corners of our community. We promote teamwork, healthy living and opportunities for giving back. We welcome people from all ages and abilities to get outside and try a new way to stay active.” – GWN Dragon Boat Team
This year’s event will once again benefit the Chautauqua Lake Association. The CLA’s mission is to provide effective and efficient lake maintenance services for the benefit of all Chautauqua Lake users. Whether you’re a race participant or spectator we hope you can plan to join us once again for Dragon Boat Racing on Chautauqua Lake.
The CHQ Dragon Boat Race is the only event of its kind offered in the surrounding area. Don’t miss your chance to get in on the fun!
