The dragons are back on Chautauqua Lake. The third annual Dragon Boat Race is scheduled for August 11, 2018 at Lucille Ball Memorial Park in Celoron, NY!

Last year’s event was an overwhelming success, almost doubling the number of participating teams from the inaugural race in 2016. Nearly 30 boats comprised of teams from local sponsors, community groups and several experienced clubs from Pittsburgh, Ithaca and Buffalo competed.

Hundreds of people gathered at Lucille Ball Memorial Park in Celoron for the race participants, as friends and family shared in a fun-filled afternoon of friendly competition.

About Dragon Boat Racing

Dragon boat racing began in Southern China over 2000 years ago; today it is the fastest growing team water sport. Distinguished by their ornate figureheads, these majestic boats are rowed competitively throughout the world and now on Chautauqua Lake.

A dragon boat seats 10 or 20 paddlers with a steersperson standing in the stern to guide the boat, and a drummer in the bow to motivate the team to keep the paddlers in synch. Crews do not require prior experience, a steersperson is provided along with training before the scheduled race day. Participants simply need the desire to enjoy a friendly, team building athletic competition!
